Every year at the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, MO. Mike Bickle does what is called an “International House of Prayer University Intensive.” During this time he takes one of the prophetic books from the Bible, usually from the Old Testament and creates an intensive teaching that goes for three days. During this teaching that Mike does, he preaches exegetically through the entire book he has chosen, going line upon line. The subject matter most often has to do with the nation of Israel, the great tribulation, the city of Jerusalem, the prayer and worship movement, and the body of Christ.
Last year Mike chose the book of Zechariah. I wasn’t able to be there in person, but I did catch most sessions through the web stream. There were several sessions during this intensive where my heart was burning as Mike was teaching prophetically about what God was doing in Zechariah’s day, what He was doing now in our day, and what He will do at the end of this age. You can grab all the sessions from last year’s intensive, including video, transcripts and sermon notes HERE. You can also purchase the syllabus that Mike created for this intensive HERE.
This year’s intensive is taking place August 29-31, 2013. If you are unable to attend live in Kansas City, MO. you can live stream the entire event for free. The sessions are as follows; Thursday (August 29th) 6pm. Friday and Saturday (August 30th-31st) 9am, 2pm and 6pm (Central Standard Time).
This year Mike has chosen the book of Daniel to cover during this intensive. For the past 21 days starting on August 4th and ending on August 25th at midnight we participated in the Daniel fast as a spiritual community and searching out the book of Daniel. We had four main objectives during this Daniel fast. First, was to have an encounter with the love of God, like Daniel did. Second, to pray for breakthrough in our families, our city, our region and in our nation. Third, we were praying for a breakthrough in the city of Jerusalem. And fourth, we were asking God for understanding about His plans at the end of this age. This has been a really exciting and challenging 21 days. It was exciting because we were reading the book of Daniel together, praying from it in the Global Prayer Room, talking about it in our life groups and hearing about it at most of the weekend services at FCF. And it was challenging because we were fasting.
I was familiar with the book of Daniel prior to this fast, but during these past 21 days, Mike Bickle has encouraged us to read the book of Daniel once a day (which I was not entirely successful in). In doing this to some degree, I have received much more revelation about this book and also realize that I still have tons more to receive. Also reading various commentaries about this book have helped tremendously in understanding some of the various things that appear throughout the book.
One of the primary themes about the book of Daniel, is the call to families to disciple, train and raise up our children in the context of a wholehearted faith towards Jesus. It’s easy to allow western culture, western Church culture and western values to determine how seriously we approach our faith and our Children’s faith in Christ. But this must not be so. As Christians we must be Kingdom citizens before we are Americans Patriots.
For many within the body of Christ in the West see our children attending Church once a week as plenty of exposure to Christ. But the current crisis in our nation, and the growing crisis in the nations calls for an approach that’s rooted in a Sermon On the Mount value system (Wholehearted love towards Christ and others). As Daniel was taken captive from Jerusalem by the king of Babylon, possibly at the age of 14, what ensues during his captivity is nothing short of a glorious testimony to his upbringing. He remains pure in the midst of the most impure culture in human history. And the primary thing to attribute to his purity is his family and upbringing. There is much to learn from this book in the Bible.
And one way to grow in your understanding of this book is to participate in the upcoming intensive. Here is the link to the upcoming “Daniel Intensive”, with tons of resources about fasting, the book of Daniel, the end times and all the information about the upcoming services. I hope you are able to join in!
