Opening Passage
John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
Jesus is in a very difficult conversation with the disciples throughout John 14, 15, 16 and 17, as He is about to be betrayed by one of His brethren and suddenly taken from those that loved Him most. It’s not just difficult for Jesus, but it’s also going to be very difficult for His followers. In fact this is going to be moment of greatest pressure in their lifetime. They are about to be struck in the heart with the dagger of love from their Beloved. For many of these disciples, Jesus is the only Guy who’s believed in them and given them the opportunity to serve in full-time ministry.
So in light of His nearing departure from them, Jesus continues His dialog about Holy Spirit. He makes it clear that the first Preacher of the Christ was, is and will continue to be, Holy Spirit. I will never forget when I first heard this concept preached by Judah Smith at the City Church when he said the “Holy Spirit was the first preacher of Jesus.” This phrase rattled around within my spirit until it finally gave way to a windfall of powerful revelation.
Jesus Himself said it right here, “But when the Helper comes….He will bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” Jesus lets us know that when the Holy Spirit comes, His primary purpose will be to fill the human heart and mind with the beauty, majesty, worth and ministry of Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit who inspired all of the Word of God knows more about Jesus than any person who’s ever lived, combined, times a million. The Holy Spirit is the most knowledgeable Person about the Man Christ Jesus. And it’s this same Holy Spirit that has been given to every person who loves and fears Jesus Christ.
Many people have questions about Jesus and the Bible. And so often I go and talk about them to others while neglecting the Holy Spirit who lives within me. I forget that I can talk to Holy Spirit and ask Him about what He thinks about Jesus, the Word of God—all 66 books that He inspired and life both in this age and the age to come.
Did you know that the Holy Spirit is the original search engine of heaven? Whatever you want to know about Jesus, ask the Holy Spirit. There are very few subjects that I haven’t put into Google to search and suddenly bring me answers. But beloved, Google is just an earthly attempt to replicate a Man who literally knows everything!
The Holy Spirit is working like a wedding coordinator, working behind the scenes preparing the bride for her Revelation 19 wedding day. It will be because the Holy Spirit told us so much information about Jesus, that we will stand before both Jesus and the Father arrayed in white. Not because we worked hard, but because Holy Spirit talked to us and filled our hearts with the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Closing Prayer
Holy Spirit, You who know more about Jesus than any other person alive, would you fill my heart and mind with the testimony of Jesus? Would you take what belongs to Him and declare it to me even now? Holy Spirit, I am hungry for revelation about Jesus Christ and I ask that you would now talk to me about Him. Thank You for sending the Holy Spirit to me, to help me understand You more. Holy Spirit, thank You for being the glad Worker who serves me tirelessly and with such joy!
